BELLADONNA DRUSILLA MARINO
tw : // mentions of sexual assault, violence against women, murder, death.Born October 13th 1473 in Rifreddo, Cuneo, Italy. Young Belladonna was raised along with her seven siblings, mother and father who lived humbled lives of corn farmers. Life was simplistic, structured. prepare for harvest, fulfill, prepare, fulfill.Bella married young, Gasparo Cafaro. A plowman who she had three children with, Elenora, Vinico and Piero. Bella's world were her children. At 22, when her youngest was but 4 years old, a mysterious death of an attendant at the local convent led to a cruel finger being pointed to her along with three other women within the village. Accused of heresy and witchcraft, having been found with balms and elixirs on her person; perceived to be potions and curses. She was tortured till she confessed, having begged God to release her and prove her innocence for she had only served him all her life. Before the night of her execution, Bella was visited by Vito dei Beggiami, the friar who started the witch hunt. He came to speak to her, gave her a final blessing. She tried to withdraw her confession but he wouldn't listen and grew frustrated with the girl.He removed her from her cell and took her to the outskirts of the village, down by the river where he violated her already broken body and threw her into the waters.

Her body was discarded there, left to decay for decades. In 1542 they were rediscovered by a traveler who had stopped by the driver to quench their thirst. They became fascinated by the remains, drawn to them and spent days maybe weeks trying to recover as much of them as possible. The traveler, an apothecary recovered all of the bones and began to arrange them. Once the bones were arranged, the traveler found that it was swarmed by birds; all kinds of birds, coming and engulfing the strewn out collection until the apothecary could not see them anymore. It was as if the birds merged with the bones, shifting from feather to flawless skin and hair. The traveler, Macario Napolitani was astonished, observing as a women formed before him. He greeted her, taking her in and bringing her back to strength as she slowly remembered who she once was.
The years tick over, Donna unaware of how she was back upon this earth and Macario devoting his craft to help her find the answer. He called her 'Dea degli uccelli' the goddess of birds and they travelled the whole of Italy looking for answers, running from the church... from those who thought her to be a devil. She did not bleed, did not need to breathe but could, she was beautiful, could charm even a blind man.For the next 19 years they searched endlessly, venturing out to the rest of Europe in search of answers. The only thing close enough were the harpies of greek mythology. Macario, now old and riddled with disease had come to the end of his life. He passed within an convent, Belladonna by his side holding his hand as he passed. She felt as his life passed over, feeling it move from him through her hand and into her chest. The man who brought life to her once again was gone and she was alone now.
She lay him down to rest by a river, just like he found her all those years ago. Barely further to knowing what she had become then when she'd first returned to the living. So she called herself a harpy and navigated the world on her own.
Centuries went by, venturing from city to city within europe. By the first fifty years she realised that her aging... had ceased. Forever 39 years old. She discovered slowly the gifts she was blessed with, as if a cruel gift from god. What the mortals would call a witch, the ability to manipulate mystical energy that existed within the world harnessed by intention and focus.Years and years of hoping from city to city, collecting what was needed for her craft. She studied ancestral worship during the Massacre of Vassy in 1562, but a few miles away. She ventured into ritualism and ceremonial practices up until the great fire of london of 1666 where her current residence went up in flames. Elemental magic came next when she crossed the great sea, mastering the control of the five elements whilst the Americans revolted against the British. It was during the Irish's fight against the British that she started upon greening her fingers, herbal and healing magic. When the first world war began she looked to the moon and planets above to grant her strength to keep going. With time, she'd built herself a life. A lonely life at that, but she had enough to generate a wealth, had the time to flourish her mind and wisdom from the many years of trial and error. She'd been a beggar, a scholar, a painter, a viscountess and even a suffragette. All to see more of the world and help where she could. Her forename would stay the same, variations to get by generation to generation.. a new surname each time she started over.
Upon the modern day, Donna's choice in lifestyle is that of studying the mind of mortals. Designed as a 'consulting psychoterapist', daughter of her mother Marybeth Hewitt who founded Dr Hewitt Associates within Burley, Hampshire, England. Specializing in clinical and forensic psychology, though accepts clients from all over the world and for all natures of matters.Though those who seem to receive the services of Dr Hewitt never seemed to last long after, but surely that is the way when consulting with the damned and the deranged.

HARPY ; a species study
The name that Belladonna attached to herself, unaware of what she truly was.Whereas within greek and roman mythology a harpy (harpies) were the spirits of sudden, sharp gusts of wind. They were known as the hounds of Zeus and were dispatched by the god to snatch away people and things from the earth. They were depicted as winged women, sometimes with ugly faces, or with the lower bodies of birds. The only similarity between a mythology Harpy and Belladonna was that of being a woman and being of bird, harpies were identifiable by their hybrid appearance where Donna herself was formed from birds to create this second life. She's never been able to appear part bird or turn her skin back to feathers.
Appearance aside, Belladonna's nature is more that of a witch despite her hatred for the suggestion as it was such an accusation that led to the end of her mortal life. But it is undeniable that she could manipulate existing mystical energies that resided within the world and with much practice and many years she had an understanding and control of many different practices but her strong suit is within green witch practices. Green witches are often herbalists, naturalists, and healers who believe in working in harmony with the earth. Donna creates remedies, elixirs, in potions, baked goods and drinks.Other practices she uses vary from: ancestral, ritual, elemental and various others but these are unmatched to her mastery of green witchery.
Whereas witches are not immortal, Belladonna has lived for 482 years post her resurrection. She stopped aging in 1569 when Macario passed away, something that Donna assumed this took away her mortality as the life who arranged her bones and returned her to living had passed over. Yet once again she truly doesn't know the answers to her state of existence. She doesn't bleed, doesn't have to breathe if she doesn't want to. Doesn't have to eat but if she doesn't then she is weakened, starvation won't kill her, nor drowning or suffocating. Her existence doesn't make sense.
